Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is a term used to describe energy created from resources which are capable of being naturally replenished. Solar panel, home wind turbines, geothermal heat, rain, and the tides are examples of such useful resources. The development of these options is desirable for a number of reasons.

Reduced carbon emissions and cleaner air are a couple things which renewable energy offers. In addition to that, these choices for power provide a means for civilization to have a more sustainable footing as we find ourselves heading deeper into the twenty-first century. For individual countries the emphases on these resources can spur their economic development while improving energy security.

Renewable energy policy and institutions have reached a significant milestone as of the beginning of 2009. 78 countries had signed the statue of IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency. The Agency is designed to provide both support and advice worldwide related to policy, capacity building, and the transfer of technology.
