Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is a term used to describe the most productive use of energy. The idea is to provide at least the same level of service as standard options while making minimal power demands. This focus can be applied to appliances, vehicles, and even building design.

A great example of energy efficiency for the home is that of insulation. This provides the same comfortable and ideal temperature as traditional means, however less energy must be put into heating and cooling for this situation. Another example would be to use either natural lighting through skylights or fluorescent lights as opposed to the conventional incandescent bulb.

Energy efficiency is viewed as an integral part of reducing the worlds energy needs. In fact, the International Energy Agency determined that smart design could reduce global energy needs by a third by year 2050. This would be an immense step when it comes to controlling greenhouse gas emissions.
