Alternative Energy FAQs
What is a CFL?
A CFL is a compact fluorescent lamp. This type of light uses 75% less energy than the traditional incandescent types. In addition to the energy savings, such a light will generally last between 8 and 15 times the lifespan of incandescent bulbs.
Must a CFL be left on all day in order to provide energy benefits?
Frequently turning a CFL on and off will decrease its lifespan. However, it is still important to leave lights off if a room is empty for a long period of time. In general, it is best to use them in the rooms which require lighting the most frequently. A good amount of time for them to be left on is at least fifteen minutes.
